Who is C.L. Franklin?

C.L. Franklin was not a commercial actor, but he was a prominent Baptist minister and civil rights activist in the mid-20th century United States. Known for his charismatic sermons and deep baritone voice, Franklin preached at New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan for over thirty years, earning a reputation as one of the most powerful preachers of his time.

Born in 1915 in Mississippi, Franklin and his family moved to Memphis when he was a child. Growing up, he sang in his father's gospel group and developed a love for music. As an adult, he hosted a popular gospel radio show called "The Breakfast Club," which featured his sermons and performances by guest artists, including his daughter, the legendary singer Aretha Franklin.

In addition to his work in the church, Franklin was a passionate advocate for civil rights. He was active in the National Baptist Convention and worked with other prominent activists, including Martin Luther King Jr. and Jesse Jackson. He was involved in voter registration drives, boycotts, and protests throughout the 1950s and 60s.
