Fry's was founded in 1954 by Donald Fry in northern California. With the help of his brother Charles, the chain expanded into the Phoenix market in 1960. Fry's was sold in 1972 to Dillons, based in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Fry's Electronics is no more. The chain of computer and consumer electronics superstores is closing its 31 remaining stores, thereby joining Circuit City, CompUSA, and my own beloved RadioShack among the once-mighty retailers of technology products that went into decline and finally collapsed.

Fry's Electronics, Inc. was founded in 1985 in Sunnyvale, California in a 20,000 square-foot location by the three Fry brothers, John, Randy, and Dave; and Kathy Kolder. Fry's is a closely-held private company, and all of the founders are actively involved in the daily operation of the business.

Today, Fry's Food and Drug stores are owned and operated by Kroger, and are not affiliated with Fry's Electronics, although they have similar logos. John's idea was to use the model of grocery retailing, with which the brothers were familiar, to sell computer and electronics supplies.

Location and ownership. The Fry's chocolate bar was first produced in Union Street, Bristol, England in 1866, where the family name had been associated with chocolate making since c. 1761. In 1923, Fry's (now Cadbury) chocolate factory moved to Somerdale Garden City, Keynsham, England.

Chairman Rodney McMullen Who owns Kroger? Though it was founded by Bernard Kroger in 1883, Kroger is currently owned by CEO and Chairman Rodney McMullen. McMullen literally started as a stock clerk at a Kentucky Kroger location and worked his way up.
