  • Stroke: tiredness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, difficulty speaking, difficulty walking, weakness on one side of the body.
  • Heart attack: dizziness, tiredness, cold sweat, trouble breathing, chest pain or tightness, anxiety.

Generally, healthcare professionals do not recommend taking over-the-counter (OTC) pain relievers for more than a few days in a row. Arthritis does not always cause constant joint pain. During an arthritis flare-up, arthritic pain can suddenly worsen over short periods.

Each Advil® DUAL ACTION tablet contains 125 mg of ibuprofen and 250 mg of acetaminophen and can be taken as 2 tablets every 8 hours, for a total of 6 tablets per day. Individually ibuprofen and acetaminophen usually need to be dosed every 4-6 hours.

Ibuprofen + Acetaminophen (Advil Dual Action) is used to reduce fever and to relieve minor aches and pain from headaches, muscle aches, arthritis, menstrual periods, the common cold, toothaches, and backaches. Ibuprofen is in a class of medication called NSAIDs.

Chemist John Nicholson and pharmacologist Stewart Adams developed ibuprofen during the 1950s and 1960s at Boots Pure Drug Co. in England. Today, ibuprofen is a popular first-line treatment for safely reducing pain, fever and inflammation, and it is available in more than 80 countries.

What is Advil used for? Advil temporarily reduces fever and relieves minor aches and pains due to headaches, toothaches, backaches, menstrual cramps, the common cold, muscular aches and the minor pain of arthritis. Whether it's joint pain, headache or minor arthritis, Advil is tough on pain, but gentle on your body.

It's recommended to only take OTC ibuprofen for pain for up to 10 days or for fever for up to 3 days. If you notice your pain or fever is getting worse or not going away, you should stop taking ibuprofen and contact your healthcare provider.

Advil is only intended for short-term use and taking more than directed or for longer than directed can cause adverse side effects. So, make sure to talk to your doctor if your pain lasts more than 10 days, or if your fever doesn't go away after 3 days.

While no studies have shown a tolerance build up (or weakening of pain relieving power), over-the-counter pain relievers (including Advil) should not be used for longer than 10 days unless directed by a physician.
