Storyline. Robert McCall is a former special service commando who faked his own death in hopes of living out a quiet life. Instead, he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to save a young girl, and finds his desire for justice reawakened after coming face-to-face with members of a brutal Russian gang.

Basically, “The Equalizer” is an average-Joe blue-collar version of a comic-book avenger, secretly stalking those responsible for abusing and preying upon innocent citizens. And this film acts as an origin story with an ending that suggests a new franchise is afoot.

Happily, The Equalizer returned in 2014 in a successful feature film reboot starring Denzel Washington as McCall, with a sequel expected next year. Unhappily, they changed pretty much everything from the TV show, including moving the setting from New York to Boston.
