The campaign takes the player back to the immediate aftermath of Emergence Day and revolves around the trial of Kilo Squad, including Lt. Damon Baird and Pvt. Augustus Cole, as they are accused of treason after a battle against the Locust in Halvo Bay.

If you like gears it will be pretty enjoyable nonetheless. However, the story seems to be everywhere as in it doesn't really flow and connect all that well. But it is still a decently good gears expierence. If you liked Raams Shadow, you'd like this.

Baird In the previous games you just played as Marcus. In Judgement you start as Baird and then switch when doing a new act. There was an extra campaign called Aftermath which took place in Gears of War 3. In Aftermath, you got to see what Baird and Cole were doing after they got separated from Marcus and the others.

The first thing to mention is the timeline. I've been wanting to do a whole piece on the Gears timeline for some time now, but that involves finally reading all the books, and unfortunately the audible versions are horrible. Judgement takes place before the first game in the series, before you're introduced to Marcus.

The Locust War was a planet-wide conflict between the humans of Sera and the subterranean race known as the Locust Horde. The war began on Emergence Day, when the Locust emerged from the underground caverns of the Hollow and eliminated one quarter of the human population.

Judgement takes place before the first game in the series, before you're introduced to Marcus. This one instead focuses around Baird and Cole specifically, with a couple other characters like Paduk playing active roles in the story.

The core tactical gameplay that makes Gears of War such an addicting experience is as present as ever, but Judgement implements a ton of tweaks that helps it find its own identity. One of the most immediately noticeable changes is a reduced amount of slots to hold weapons.

Whether you're a long-time Yakuza fan or just coming to this series, Judgment is well worth the investment. Boasting a cracking story, oodles of content and a fantastic fighting system, this spin-off can keep you glued for days…

While the backstory is definitely helpful and gives the events of Gears of War 4 more weight, it is more than possible to play Gears of War 4 without having played the previous trilogy; you'll just miss out on the references is all. However, you must play through Gears of War 4 before playing Gears 5.
