The dressers have been blamed in the deaths of three children since 2014. Now, facing pressure from consumer safety advocates, Ikea has issued a massive recall on 29 million dressers and discontinued the sale of all but its smallest nightstand version of the Malm line.

IKEA urges customers to inspect their IKEA chests of drawers and dressers to ensure that they are securely anchored to the wall using the wall attachment hardware kit provided in the packaging. The connecting strap or cable is typically affixed to each bracket, then tightened in place. The point of an anchoring kit is to prevent furniture tip over accidents. IKEA also recommends screwing one part of the bracket directly to the wall and the other end onto the furniture with their provided wall anchor kits.

Furniture must be securely attached to the wall. If your wall material is not listed or if you have any questions, consult with a local hardware retailer.

Use waterproof, polyurethane glue between particle board pieces to make IKEA furniture extra sturdy. Be careful not to over apply it because you don't want the glue to squeeze out and become visible along the seams. Use a level to make sure your furniture is even.

So it'll pull those. Together there's a head of the screw on one side. And it's just like kind of a nail head on the other side. And they'll hold both pieces. Together nice and tightly.

While virtually all dressers can tip, Ikea's have proven to be particularly dangerous, causing five deaths since 2014.
