The Treasure Island Hotel and Casino describes its Sirens of TI show as a “modern musical-meets-action-movie spectacular”. The show itself is about 15 minutes long, it features a group of scantily clad women fighting a band of pirates.

Set in the mid 1700s, first along the coast of western England and then in the seaport of Bristol, the book takes readers quickly to the high seas and finally to a remote and secret island on a quest for pirate treasure.

While the novel Treasure Island certainly influenced the way we think of pirates - and especially their presumed proclivity for burying treasure and marking it on secret maps - it's the 1950 movie adaptation of the book, directed by Byron Haskin, that gave us the archetypal image of pirates and pirate talk.

Naval Station Treasure Island was closed in 1997 and leased to the City of San Francisco. Today the island is open to the public and is home to more than 2,000 residents, commercial tenants, restaurants, schools, arts and athletic organizations, and community organizations.
