NHL 22 also introduces new gameplay animations, with new reverse hitting, new pass and shot blocks, new pickups, revamped puck protection, additional goalie saves/pokes, and more. World of Chel has continuously been one of the most connected game modes in NHL. Players can team up with friends or club teammates, in 3 v 3 or 6 v 6 matches with their own customizable characters and play hockey.

It isn't free on EA play. There's a 10 hour trial for it. It comes free on EA play around April or so.

NHL 22 is available for EA Play and Xbox Game Pass subscribers. EA Play is included with the Xbox Games Pass Ultimate subscription, at no additional cost.

If you've played NHL 22, you've pretty much played NHL 23, as there aren't many differences between the two titles. That's not to say it's a carbon copy; the changes are mostly subtle, so only hard-core Chel fans will notice the updates. That said, NHL 23 has a significant addition: Last Chance Puck Movement.

It's still fun to play, and the graphics are clearly the best improvement on new-gen consoles, but otherwise, those who want to get the game on old-gen wouldn't necessarily notice a massive refresh.

Latest Critic Reviews A solid ice hockey simulator with very few true innovations. The new Frostbite engine is probably the most important one - not that it will blow you away, mind you. If you want your miracle on ice, look elsewhere. NHL 22's gameplay is substantially unchanged from its predecessors.

The World of Chel invites you to join the EA Sports Hockey League, a place where you can create and customize your own virtual pro, your way, then grab a few friends (or make some new ones) and compete together against some of the best clubs from around the world.

EA Play is overwhelmingly worth the money, even if you only subscribe to one month. Worth mentioning that if you find enough enjoyment from a couple of months of EA Play, then you should strongly consider the annual subscription.
