Szczerbiak, a one-time All-Star for the Minnesota Timberwolves and a current New York Knicks studio commentator, called Haliburton a "supposed, wannabe, fake All-Star" while recapping New York's come-from-behind win over the Pacers in December. Szczerbiak apologized to Haliburton on a later broadcast.

After the Knicks beat the Pacers, Szczerbiak called Haliburton a “wannabe, fake All-Star” in an apparent attempt to boost the All-Star candidacy of New York's Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson. Haliburton was stunned at Szczerbiak's passionate criticism, and for his part Szczerbiak has since apologized.
