While many students would be able to go faster, following this schedule means that they wouldn't learn about key signatures and 16th notes until near the end of the second year - very late for such fundamental concepts.

If you download the app and never practice, of course it's a waste of money - but if you use the app for a few minutes every day, you will learn certain aspects of playing the piano over time.
