On August 1, 2020, all stations that broadcast El Chapulín Colorado and other Gómez Bolaños programs in various countries had to suspend the broadcast of the series on their services due to conflicts between Televisa and Grupo Chespirito (heirs of Gómez Bolaños), who owns the characters and episode scripts.

El Chapulín Colorado

Chapulín Colorado, an endearing comic character who has been popular throughout Latin America for over three decades, was created by Mexican actor and producer Roberto Gómez Bolaños (1933-2015).

Chapulines, plural for chapulín (Spanish: [tʃapuˈlin]), are grasshoppers of the genus Sphenarium that are commonly eaten in certain areas of Mexico.

But chapulín means exactly the same thing as grasshopper. Anything that an English speaker would call grasshopper a Mexican would call a chapulín.

Chapulín is a very known hero throughout the world. In each episode, people recognizes Chapulín wherever he appeared (even on the planet Venus), believing him to be a great superhero. Recognition caused him to boast, only to stumble and fall right away, proving himself to be puny and timid, and disappointing his fans.

Colorado's name has its origin in the Spanish language, as the word for "colored red." The name was chosen for Colorado as a Territory in 1861 by Congress and became a state in 1876.

Chapulines are a Mexican delicacy (like our Huitlacoche ) and trace their origins back to the 16th century. The early Mexicans used them as a sustainable source of protein that was harvested during the rainy season in the summer. Perhaps the best-known region in Mexico for Chapulines is Oaxaca state.

colored red Colorado means "colored red" or "reddish" in color. Spanish travelers named the Río Colorado (Colorado River) for the ruddy silt the river carried from the mountains which gave its waters a reddish hue.
