The amount of ground coffee used in relation to the amount of water is the difference between cold brew coffee and cold brew concentrate. Cold brew concentrate has a much stronger flavor and must be diluted before drinking, whereas cold brew coffee can be consumed as is.

It's created through the same initial process as cold brew but with a few distinctions: No Initial Dilution: Unlike regular cold brew, cold brew concentrate is not initially diluted with water. Instead, it's highly concentrated from the steeping process.

Cold-brew coffee has more caffeine than espresso because it uses double or triple the amount of coffee beans. However, cold-brew extract can be diluted to match the caffeine content of an espresso so personal preference determines how strong one likes their cold-brew coffee.

Cold brew coffee, also known as Toddy coffee, is much stronger than espresso because it extracts the full amount of flavor from the beans while espresso only extracts a portion. Cold brew is usually made with more coffee beans than espresso, which contributes to its strength.

Diluting The Cold Brew Concentrate Most people prefer to drink cold brew with a concentrate-to-water ratio between 2:1 and 1:1. If you like stronger coffee, use the 2:1 dilution ratio. We prefer a little less intense, so we would go with 1:1. That yields a final brew familiar to most folks.

For a cold brew concentrate, 4:1 is perfect! That's 4 parts of water to 1 part of ground coffee. A cold brew concentrate is great for pouring over ice (like the one you get at Starbucks!) or milk. If you rather have it without any milk or ice, I would recommend making it with a higher water ratio.

Dilute: Your cold brew's final product should be considered a "concentrate". We recommend diluting with ice or water at a 1:1 ratio. Don't be afraid to experiment here, but keep in mind that you brewed a concentrate, and if you are drinking it straight, the coffee jitters may follow.

If you're serving it iced, the ice is meant to melt and dilute the coffee a little. If it's still a bit too much for you, just dilute your glass with some water or milk to taste.
