YT-1300 light freighter The Millennium Falcon was a YT-1300 light freighter of the YT-1300f variety. Its basic shape was defined by two convex saucers welded together, a pair of front-facing mandibles and an outrigger-style, side-mounted cockpit with transparisteel viewports.

The Millennium Falcon, originally designated YT 492727ZED and formerly known as the Stellar Envoy, was a Corellian YT-1300 light freighter built around 60 BBY.

But where did the name come from, and was that all it was called? Simply put, the ship is named after a beautiful bird of prey – the Bat Falcon. Despite being the main pilots of the Millennium Falcon in Star Wars episodes IV through VI, neither Han Solo nor Lando Calrissian named her.

Johnston did not want to produce a "basic flying saucer", so he created the offset cockpit, forward cargo mandibles, and rear slot for the engines. It was also said that the shape of the ship was roughly based on a hamburger with an olive-on-the-side cockpit.

The first Falcon was destroyed after production. The second was made for Star Wars II, which became Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. It was then stored for three years, until Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
