History of the SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE Throughout its 82-year history, the SEC has provided leadership on the vital issues facing intercollegiate competition. Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt have been in the SEC since its formation in 1933.

Members of the SEC have won many national championships: 43 in football, 21 in basketball, 41 in indoor track, 42 in outdoor track, 24 in swimming, 20 in gymnastics, 15 in baseball (College World Series), and one in volleyball.

Birmingham, Ala. Headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., the Southeastern Conference is an NCAA Conference with 14 member institutions. The SEC crowns champions in 21 sports - 12 women's sports and nine men's sports.
