Fluticasone is a medication that comes as a nasal spray. It treats allergy symptoms like sneezing, itching and a runny or stuffy nose. It helps you breathe easier by reducing inflammation in your nose. A common brand of fluticasone is Flonase®.

Week 1 - use 2 sprays in each nostril once daily. Week 2 through 6 months - use 1 or 2 sprays in each nostril once daily, as needed to treat your symptoms. After 6 months of daily use - ask your doctor if you can keep using.

The recommended starting dosage in adults is 2 sprays (50 mcg of fluticasone propionate each) in each nostril once daily (total daily dose, 200 mcg). The same total daily dose, 1 spray in each nostril administered twice daily (e.g., 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.) is also effective.

Using too much of this medicine or using it for a long time may increase your risk of having adrenal gland problems. Talk to your doctor right away if you have darkening of the skin, diarrhea, dizziness, fainting, loss of appetite, mental depression, nausea, skin rash, unusual tiredness or weakness, or vomiting.

How many doses of FLONASE are needed daily for an adult? In your first week, use 2 sprays in each nostril every day. After your first week, if your symptoms are under control, you may reduce to 1 spray in each nostril every day. If your symptoms get worse, go back to 2 sprays in each nostril.

Adults - At first, 2 sprays in each nostril once a day. Some patients may need 1 spray in each nostril 2 times a day (morning and evening). Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed. Children 4 years of age and older - At first, 1 spray in each nostril once a day.
