In total, there are four sequels to FLCL – two are the ones mentioned above, FLCL Progressive and FLCL Alternative, produced through collaboration between Production I.G. and Toonami; and, there are two more sequels announced for release sometime in 2023: FLCL: Grunge and FLCL: Shoegaze.

While trying to reproduce and capture the original feel (and fans) of FLCL, "Progressive" fails, making it feel even more "less than" which is a shame considering the story, though a trope filled mess, has some originality and enjoyable points.

FLCL has three “seasons”. They are loosely connected through a single character, but otherwise, they are completely independent. I expect you were asking about the first “season” of FLCL, but it's worth considering its value alongside its sequels.

In every iteration, FLCL (pronounced “Fooly Cooly” aloud) alchemizes a coming-of-age arc with anti-capitalist science fiction, wacky camera movements, and music from Japanese rock band the Pillows.

Critic Reviews for FLCL: Progressive: Season 2 Newcomers may not enjoy it as much as longtime fans but it's still worth a time. It's a promising beginning that I hope will continue throughout this season.

Alternative is going for a zany but calm and slice of life style, while Progressive is for going zany, random and over the top.

FLCL Alternative (Japanese: フリクリ オルタナ?, Furikuri Orutana) is a sequel anime series to FLCL and FLCL Progressive.
