Germany Trolli is a confectionery brand originating from Germany used by Trolli GmbH (formerly Mederer GmbH). Trolli GmbH sells gummy candies, marshmallows, and soft licorice gums in over 80 countries and has factories in Germany, China, Czech Republic and Spain.

History. In 1948 Willy Mederer founded Willy Mederer KG, a company producing pasta in Fürth, Germany. When sugar rationing regulations were lifted the company changed production from pasta to confectionery. The company grew in the 1950s and 1960s, widening the product range and rising to 150 staff.

Our products are suitable for vegans and vegetarians to enjoy. All the items we have marked with the vegan label of the European Vegetarian Union contain no gelatin or other animal products. Instead, we use gelling agents like starch or pectin.

Other gelling agents are used to make fondant suitable for vegans or vegetarians. Such as starch. And pectin the sugar and corn syrup are combined and heated until they form a sticky syrup gelatin.

Interestingly, Trolli was run by another German confectioner, Willy Mederer, who founded Trolli in 1948, and whose company grew very popular in the 1980s in America. No matter which you prefer, gummy bears or gummy worms (or both!), each remains a favourite to this day.

The history of Trolli started in 1948 with the founding of the confectionery company "Wilmed" by Willy Mederer - the father and role model of the current Trolli owner, Herbert Mederer.

Fortunately, loads of candies are vegan, so we can indulge our cravings (mostly) guilt-free. Most dark chocolate is vegan, as are popular sweet treats such as Smarties (known as Rockets in Canada), Oreos, Airheads, Jujubes, and Swedish Fish (some Swedish Fish contain beeswax, so be sure to check the label).

Common Candies that Contain Animal Products Gummy bears (contains gelatin) Candy corn (contains gelatin, although they do make vegan options) Starburst (contains gelatin derived from beef) Gummy worms (contains gelatin)

While sour candies contain a bit - and only a bit - less sugar, they contain quite a bit of acid added to give them their delicious sour flavor. Those acids are safe to eat (acids naturally occur in a great many foods) but in this concentration and accompanied by sugar they can cause great harm.
