Name-recognition marketing isn't going anywhere, and the immense success of Jennette McCurdy's recent memoir “I'm Glad My Mom Died” evidenced that this genre still draws the masses. Publisher Simon & Schuster maintains that McCurdy wrote the book herself, without the help of a ghostwriter.

Content warning: Although this post does not, the book I'm Glad My Mom Died includes detailed descriptions of eating disorder behaviors as well as emotional, verbal, spiritual, and sexual abuse. It also contains content related to OCD, PTSD, alcoholism, narcissistic personality disorder, and schizophrenia.

This memoir is well written, and cleverly broken up into very short chapters that make it that much easier to immerse yourself in her story. I'm Glad My Mom Died is deeply personal, and yet incredibly easy to follow because of the way in which it is structured, so it's no wonder so many people connected with it.

The email goes on to reference photos of McCurdy on the website TMZ, showing the actor with a man. The mother describes him as a “hideous ogre” before calling her daughter a “liar” and “ugly monster” who is “conniving” and “evil.”

“I was still trying to find a way to make it all mean something,” she explained about the concept of not having to forgive her mother, who died of cancer in 2013. “Because it had to, because it was her. And that was exactly what I needed to hear. It was hugely emotional, but my God did it help.”
