What is Olympic Paints and Stains Elite?
Olympic Paints and Stains Elite is a premium line of exterior wood stains that is designed to protect and enhance the natural beauty of wood. This product line includes both transparent and solid wood stains, with a variety of colors to choose from. Olympic Elite stains are formulated to provide excellent protection from the elements, including UV rays, water damage, and mold and mildew growth.
The Olympic Elite line of stains features oil-based formulas that penetrate deep into the wood to provide superior protection and durability. The transparent stains allow the natural beauty of the wood to shine through, while the solid stains provide a rich, opaque color that still allows the texture of the wood to show.
In addition to their superior performance, Olympic Elite stains are also easy to apply and maintain. They can be applied with a brush, roller, or sprayer, and are self-priming, making them ideal for both new and previously stained wood surfaces. Once applied, these stains require minimal maintenance and can provide years of protection and beauty.
Overall, Olympic Paints and Stains Elite is a highly recommended product line for those looking to protect and enhance the natural beauty of their exterior wood surfaces. These premium stains offer superior performance, beautiful colors, and easy application and maintenance.

two coats
We always recommend two coats of stain for any wood project, but you should only apply as much stain as the wood can absorb. Extremely dense hardwoods may only be able to absorb one coat of wood stain. The general rule of thumb is to apply only as much deck stain as the wood can absorb.

– Overall the OLYMPIC® MAXIMUM is a pretty average wood stain. Good for about 12-18 months in our opinion. If you are limited to what is available at your local stores the Olympic would be a decent choice. Better wood stains are found on the Internet or specialty stores such as lumber yards and paint stores.

Generally, a wood stain takes about 24 to 48 hours before it fully dries on a wood surface, a good time threshold before applying secondary coatings. Others who like to play it safe can wait for around 72 hours.
Depending on the type of stain you are using, most stains are dry and cured within 24 hours to 48 hours. After that time, it's safe for additional coats or to apply polyurethane or the sealer of your choice.
