Types of Mildew When downy mildew first appears, it tends to look yellow, then it brightens up and eventually becomes a more brownish color. Powdery mildew, on the other hand, first appears white, then gradually turns a yellow brown. It can end up appearing black as well.

For light mildew, wash with a solution of 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1/4 cup Washing (sal) Soda and 1 gallon warm water. Rinse thoroughly. For heavy mildew stains, make a paste of baking soda and bleach, then scrub with a small brush. An old toothbrush makes an excellent tool for cleaning grout.

Potassium bicarbonate: Mix 1 tablespoon potassium bicarbonate and ½ teaspoon liquid soap (not detergent) in 1 gallon of water. Spray liberally to all affected areas. This mixture may work better than baking soda as a treatment for existing infections. Milk: Mix 1 part milk to 2 to 3 parts water and spray liberally.

Mildew Clean is a powerful formula that will remove mold and mildew without any scrubbing. Its safe to use on boat tops, vinyl cushions, chairs and canopies. It can also be used on rubber fenders, fiberglass, tile, grout, tub & shower stalls, sinks, counters, Etc.

Bleach Bleach: Bleach is a very powerful mould and mildew-killing agent, but be careful – it can fade colours and damage delicate fabrics. If this is still your preferred option, check the label for safety and dosage guidelines before following the steps below. Borax: You can buy borax as a soluble powder or a detergent.

White vinegar is suitable for disinfecting and cleaning stubborn mold stains like white mold or green mold. First, spray undiluted white vinegar onto the mold-infected areas. To make a vinegar solution, mix equal parts of water and vinegar. Soak your clothes in the solution for 30 minutes before washing them.

Mold spots may appear on a surface in several different shades – blue, green, gray, black, etc. Soft surfaces like outdoor fabrics, pillows, and awnings covered in mold can eventually rot away. Mildew typically looks gray, white or yellow in color, and over time, turns darker (black or brown).

Add 1 part of borax to 10 parts of water and stir well. Apply the borax solution onto the surface. Use sponge or brush to clean off the mould and mildew. Don't rinse the solution – it will prevent further mould growth.
