A compound bow This feature enables archers to hold the bow steady and aim for longer periods without tiring their muscles. Unlike recurve bows, the archers don't need to hold the full draw weight while using a compound bow and use the release switch. The sight can also magnify the target and makes aiming easier.

Most people when learning will start with a recurve bow. There is a reason for this. Recurve bows are easy to find and easy to use by everyone no matter what age, and they are very forgiving to shoot.

Compound bows Using a system of pulleys and cables means that less physical strength is needed from the archer and it is easier to hold the bow at full draw. Archers can use magnifying sights and mechanical release aids, making the compound much more accurate from a greater distance than other types of bow.
