Snow throwers are smaller machines than snow blowers. The single stage, while effective at snow removal, does not throw snow as far as a two stage model. Two stage snow blowers are bigger and more powerful. Some can blow snow up to 50 feet with relative accuracy.

A snow thrower is single-stage machine, meaning it gathers snow and tosses it out a chute in a single motion. The power generated by a horizontal spinning auger picks up the snow while also creating the force that expels snow out of a discharge chute, usually to a distance of 15 to 25 feet away.

Choosing a Snow Blower The main types of snow blowers are single stage, two stage and, for some areas, three stage. Three-stage snow blowers can quickly remove heavy or icy snow, but this may only be necessary in areas where a high volume of snow is common.

Whenever possible, point the chute downwind so that the wind helps you blow the snow. Don't snow blow perpendicularly. It is usually best to move up and down the length of a driveway, not perpendicular. Start upwind if there's strong crosswinds.

And around the exterior don't worry about inside the augers. It's generally not safe to mess around there after you just ran the snowblower. Next move the snowblower.
