These days, the honey comes from honey bees in Florida and the oats come from across North America and the Dakotas, Wisconsin and Iowa to name a few states. The oats are cleaned and turned into oat flour in Minneapolis, Minnesota, before they are shipped to Cheerios factories in Iowa, Georgia and Buffalo, New York.

As I talk about in my new book, Brand New Name, Cheerios started out as Cheerioats. As the story goes, General Mills tasked food scientist Lester Borchardt to come up with a new cereal that would compete with Corn Flakes and Wheaties. Borchardt had an idea that a batter of oat flour could be puffed into fun shapes.

And I feel pretty good knowing that I sent them a high-quality. Product I jokingly mentioned that to my wife periodically. That I have to feed the world.
