Cheerios are a classic breakfast cereal made from whole grains. They're not only low in fat and calories but also affordable and packed with essential vitamins and minerals. Yet, Cheerios are a processed food, and some flavors are loaded with sugar.
Cheerios is an example of an invented word that looks and sounds like a real word. Bringing together “cheery” and “oats” created the first iteration of the name, Cheerioats. But being challenged by Quaker Oats forced the brand name to be more refined and get even better.
a2a Cheerio was a happy way of saying goodbye. It was first used in England. Shakespeare said “Parting is such sweet sorrow.” “ Cheerio” was a rebuttal against “Parting is such sweet sorrow.” The word cheer is in the word “cheerio”. How can a person be sad when saying the word “Cheerio?”
General Mills
Cheerios is a brand of cereal manufactured by General Mills in the United States and Canada, consisting of pulverized oats in the shape of a solid torus.
These days, the honey comes from honey bees in Florida and the oats come from across North America and the Dakotas, Wisconsin and Iowa to name a few states. The oats are cleaned and turned into oat flour in Minneapolis, Minnesota, before they are shipped to Cheerios factories in Iowa, Georgia and Buffalo, New York.
Chocolate Cheerios cereal can help lower cholesterol as part of a heart healthy diet. Three grams of soluble fiber daily from whole grain oat foods in a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. Chocolate Cheerios provides 0.75 gram per serving.
Although Original Cheerios is certainly a healthy product, not all Cheerios products are equally healthy. Several types of Cheerios have added sugars that make them much less healthy compared to the original product. For instance, products like Frosted Cheerios not only use sugar but corn syrup and brown sugar syrup.
CHEERIOS ENTERED THE WORLD IN 1941, BUT THEY WERE CALLED CHEERIOATS. In 1941, Lester Borchardt was a physicist working for General Mills in Minnesota. He and his team invented Cheerios by developing a puffing gun machine that puffed oats into a small "o" shape.

As I talk about in my new book, Brand New Name, Cheerios started out as Cheerioats. As the story goes, General Mills tasked food scientist Lester Borchardt to come up with a new cereal that would compete with Corn Flakes and Wheaties. Borchardt had an idea that a batter of oat flour could be puffed into fun shapes.
And I feel pretty good knowing that I sent them a high-quality. Product I jokingly mentioned that to my wife periodically. That I have to feed the world.
