But it wasn't until selling his interest in McPherson Archery back in the mid-'80s that Matt was able to go his own way. Determined to start a new and different kind of bow company at home in the Upper Midwest, Matt first set up shop in Austin, Minnesota, then found the perfect spot in Sparta, Wisconsin.

WKR. I would not let the ATA sway you from giving this one a shot. The most forgiving compact bow I have ever shot, hands down.
Yes, but pleasantly. I have no doubt the Triax can hit 343 fps with lighter arrows and when set at a draw weight of 70 pounds and a draw length of 30.5 inches.

Short, fast bows do not. So when my 2018 Mathews Triax arrived I was visibly terrified. The Triax is 28" axle to axle, has a 6" brace height, and shoots a snappy 343FPS IBO. I remember saying to my wife - "Oh crap, I'm going to suck with this bow."
It's quiet and compact. Though I haven't given the Triax a Hooter Shooter spin as of yet, I have shot field points and fixed and mechanical broadheads out to a distance of 100 yards. This bow is a tack driver, and though it's short and features a 6-inch brace height, it seems ultra-forgiving.
The Hoyt has the smoothest and best draw cycle out of every bow I have ever shot. This is important when trying to up your poundage. The Mathews draw cycle was just a little more aggressive. I was super surprised with my findings here.
