Our History
The Polaris spirit can be traced back to co-founders Edgar Hetteen, his younger brother Allan and his close friend David Johnson. The hard-working trio started the forerunner of Polaris - Hetteen Hoist & Derrick - in 1945 in tiny Roseau, Minnesota.
Polaris was founded in 1954 with the invention of its very first off-roading vehicle, the early snowmobile, following in 1955. The name Polaris comes from the name of the North Star and is meant to reflect the location of the first company headquarters in northern Minnesota.
