Coming from the US, you need two things: a plug adapter and a transformer. The plug adapter is self-explanatory... the transformer gives the hair straightener 110-120 volts instead of the local 240 (ish).

A step down converter - also known as a buck converter - converts high voltage to low voltage, usually transforming AC current to DC current. A voltage regulator maintains a constant output voltage for a circuit, regardless of any changes in connected devices or electrical load.

220 volts American appliances run on 110 volts, while European appliances are 220 volts. If you see a range of voltages printed on the item or its plug (such as "110–220"), you're OK in Europe. Some older appliances have a voltage switch marked 110 (US) and 220 (Europe) - switch it to 220 as you pack.

The plug shapes and power voltage is different between America and European countries. America uses type-A/B plugs, while most European countries use Type-C plugs (Type-C also fits into Type E, F, H, J, K, L, N sockets that replace the Type C socket in some countries like Italy, Denmark, Switzerland etc.).

The golden range seems to be between 250°F and 375°F, depending on hair thickness (go lower for finer hair, and higher for thick or coarse textures). More specifically, they suggest starting on the lower end, between 250°F and 300°F, and then adjusting as needed from there.

How much power do they need?

Applying a natural oil after you iron is fine. Sometimes you need a little weight afterward, but don't put oil on your hair ​before you press it. This will heat the oil, and then oil will eventually deep-fry your hair. You won't get that lightweight, bouncy look you're after if you compound the damage on your hair.

To straighten your hair without frizz, start with a clean and conditioned hair. Make sure to use a thermal heat protectant before heat styling to reduce damage from heat, and use a hair primer as a base for faster and more efficient hair styling.

A step-up transformer increases the input voltage and delivers it to the load, and a step-down transformer decreases the input voltage at the load. High voltage is required for efficient power transmission, but the power must be utilized by consumers at a lower voltage for safety reasons.

You will need a step-down voltage transformer if you're traveling to any country with a power standard that is higher than what your appliances use. Conversely, taking appliances that run on 220–110 volts to the U.S. or Canada requires a step-up voltage converter that can transform 110–120 volts up to 220–240 volts.

You need to use a 240-volt appliance with the required equipment or power outlet. In the U.S., Canada, and neighboring countries, standard household outlets run at 120 volts. It's ill-advised to connect an appliance requiring 220 or 240 volts to one of these outlets because it can damage or destroy the device.

110-120V For instance, in the United States, we use 110-120V (60 Hz), while in many other countries, 220-240V (50 Hz) is used. This is because the electrical standards were originally established by the individual countries and at the time, there was no international standardization.
