There are many reiterations of the classic fairytale, Cinderella, but the animated Disney movie was the first to emphasize a magic wand. In fact, Fairy Godmother might be the first Disney character with a wand (just beating out Tinkerbell three years prior).

Snow White Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs came out in 1937, debuting the very first Disney princess with Snow White herself. Voiced by Adriana Caselotti, she's incredibly of her time (i.e. dated af). Her whole deal is she's, like, really pretty.

Belle. And, of course, there is Belle, who is book smart and street smart. As everyone knows, she loves literature, and reading expands vocabularies, opens up creativity, and provides information. This princess also has the knowledge needed to deal with slime balls, saves fathers and transforms beasts into true loves.

A Little Princess is the story of Sara Crewe as she moves from wealth to poverty (being poor) and back. She meets the mean Miss Minchin, who treats Sara horribly after she loses her money. Sara also meets the kind and noble Mr. Carrisford, her father's former business partner.

There are two intertwining themes in A Little Princess: the power of imagination and the power of kindness. When I first read the novel as a quiet “dreamer” third-grader, I was surprised and impressed by the way Sara conquers her troubles: by imagining that she is a princess.
