About FR-S The first rear-wheel drive vehicle produced under the Scion brand, the FR-S was given form thanks to an engineering partnership with Subaru. A low and wide sports car incorporating a long hood and well-defined fenders, the Scion FR-S was accompanied by a performance-infused 2+2 passenger interior.

The FR-S is a joint production of Toyota and Subaru, the latter selling the similar Subaru BRZ. Both models are powered by Subaru's four-cylinder boxer engine and offer manual and automatic transmission pairings.

All of the models (BRZ, FR-S, 86/GT86) are built in Subaru's plant in Gunma, Japan. There are a few pictures of the 86 and BRZ being built side by side. Yeah, there are Subaru stamps all over the FR-S too. ^This Subaru factory produces all the BRZ, FR-S, GT86/TOYOTA 86 in the world.

The 2013 Scion FR-S is an all-new, rear-wheel-drive sport coupe co-developed by Toyota and Subaru.

Scions really are Japanese Toyotas that were solely made in Japan but more chique. The Subaru BRZ, Toyota 86, and Scion FR-S (now known as the Toyota 86 since Scion was discontinued) share a common design and many similarities because they were co-developed as part of a collaborative project between Subaru and Toyota.

Toyota Toyota, the parent company behind the Scion brand, had decided to discontinue this youth-focused nameplate in August 2016 and most of the Scion-branded models have been rebadged as Toyotas. The rear-drive FR-S (rebadged Toyota 86) is a drift-ready two-door coupe.

Very reliable and good on gas, and fun to drive at speeds under the speed limit. One of the best handling cars I've ever driven, on par with cars that cost twice as much. Definitely would recommend to someone wanting a sporty daily or a fun handling car. Also a great platform for modifications and originality.

Due to the discontinuation of the Scion marque, in August 2016 the FR-S was re-branded as the Toyota 86 in North America for the 2017 model year and onward.

It's been absorbed back into its parent company Toyota, which means, almost as soon as it began rolling off the assembly line, the Scion iA became the Toyota Yaris iA. If that's not confusing enough, the Yaris iA that was originally known as the Scion iA is really a Mazda2.

The Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S are mechanically identical. Each has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under its hood. The power plant yields 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque.

Considering they use the same engines and transmissions as their Toyota counterparts, factually their reliability should be the same. Knowing some people who owned them and Toyotas, the build quality on Scions can sometimes be worse in comparison to Toyotas.
