The View-Master is a vintage tool that presents three-dimensional images. Although the stereoscope had been the chosen source for viewing images for learning and entertainment for decades, the invention of the View-Master meant that people put their stereoscopes aside in favor of a newer form of virtual reality.

The view master was first introduced at the New York World's Fair (1939-1940.) Made by Sawyer's Photo Services, the device showed stereoscopic three-dimensional pictures. Originally intended as an educational device for adults, the view master soon become a popular children's toy.

By the 1950s, View-Master had become one of the most popular toys in the country, a trend that continued into the 1970s.

VR glasses work by stereoscopy, a technique that allows the brain to distinguish the relief. How does it proceed? It combines two flat images perceived by each eye into one. These stereoscopic images, generated by the computer or the headset, are projected onto two lenses in front of each eye.

the United States military In the 1940s, the United States military recognized the potential for using View-Master products for personnel training, purchasing 100,000 viewers and nearly six million reels from 1942 to the end of World War II in 1945. After the development of the View-Master, Sawyer's, Inc. moved into a new building at 735 S.W.

The View-Master has a long history, dating back to the late 1930's in Portland, Oregon, USA. It was initially conceived by William Gruber and Harold Graves. Graves, who was president of Sawyers Photographic Services saw the potential of Gruber's camera rig he has developed for taking stereo photographs.

Beginning November 1, 2019, View-Master™ VR Starter Pack & Deluxe VR viewer will be discontinued, and various apps and services associated with the toy will be discontinued.

They began development work on the new invention, and Mayer came up with a name: View-Master. Sawyer's introduced the device at the 1939 World's Fair and it was an immediate hit.

While Graves and Gruber are credited with the creation of the View-Master, it was Harrison who turned it into an attractive and user-friendly toy that was celebrated as a classic by induction into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 1999.
