NexGard allergies in dogs occur when dogs have an allergic reaction to or suffer from side-effects of this popular flea and tick treatment. The active ingredient, afoxolaner, may not agree with all dogs that ingest this oral preventative.
These oral medications like Nexgard and Bravecto are convenient but they do not prevent ticks from attaching to your dog. Oral tick control requires the tick to insert its mouthparts in the dog's skin to take a blood meal before it will kill the tick.
It has minimal side effects, and has been shown to be safe at up to 5 times the recommended dose. In a 90-day field study, 415 dogs were administered afoxolaner and no serious adverse reactions were observed with NexGard.
