"King's latest endeavor begins with a familiar premise: decorated veteran Billy Summers, a principled hit man on the eve of retirement, agrees to do one last job. Things go south in spectacularly bad fashion, making for a characteristically King thriller about luck, fate, and redemption.

August 3, 2021Billy Summers / Originally published Billy Summers is a crime novel written by American author Stephen King, published by Scribner on August 3, 2021.

Readers of Stephen King's newest bestselling novel, “Billy Summers,” will get a small taste of life in small-town Kansas as two traveling characters stop at a local restaurant. But don't let that taste fool you - it wasn't served quite right.

Billy Summers is a crime novel, a romance and a revenge story all in one interwoven with verve and enough emotions to pull the story along.

There's nary a supernatural horror in sight in Stephen King's latest novel, Billy Summers. No shape-shifting evil clowns, no possessed Plymouths, paintings or pets. That's not to say there are no monsters. It's just that they're the human variety, and there are plenty of those.

This was a great King novel. We have a modern war (Irak, seen from Billy's perspective), a strong female character (Alice) and some fine crime story with a shot of horror rolling along.

George Guidall The prolific narrator has been the voice behind many of the longest running and most popular mystery and thriller series.

1896 The Cleveland Library League In 1896 the first recorded summer reading program was developed.

Stephen King lit upon the idea for his new book, Billy Summers, while telling himself bedtime stories. “I started to think about this problem, of a [hitman] who had to take a shot and get away from the fifth floor, or the high floor, of a building,” he tells Rolling Stone.

Alice goes back to Buck's and finishes Billy's story giving it a happy ending. Billy had left all his savings to her. She decides to study English literature and become a writer, continuing Billy's dreams.

There is a conflict for the reader as Billy is a killer, but we also see he's a decent guy as he embeds himself in the local community.
