The brand was founded in 2005 in Milwaukie, Oregon by Dave Dahl, who learned the baking trade growing up in his family bakery. The company expanded from 30 employees to more than 190 by 2010 and to 280 by the end of 2012.

He worked around the clock and created an organic, vegan, non-GMO loaf loaded with sunflower, flax, pumpkin and sesame seeds. Dave loved his creation so much he called the bread “killer” and the name stuck. Glenn and Dave launched four varieties of Dave's Killer Bread at the Portland farmer's market in August 2005.

Our organic Epic Everything® bagels have all the garlicky and oniony deliciousness you want, and pack a whopping 26g of whole grains per serving. You won't find any high fructose corn syrup in our bagels, but you will find 13g protein per serving. Dave's Killer Bread Epic Everything Bagels 4.7 out of 5 stars.

Indeed, Dahl often needs to explain the organic, whole-grain bread's “killer” namesake. No, Dahl did not kill anyone. He said the bread is called “killer” because it's not just healthy, but also so tasty, it's “killer.”

Both dietitians are fans of DKB for similar reasons. "I think Dave's Killer Bread is a good option when purchasing bread," says Modell. "It is high in fiber and protein. Although the sugar content might be higher than some of its health-conscious counterparts, it can add value to your diet."

Queens, New York According to the New Yorker this week, the everything bagel was created 30 years ago, when then teenager David Gussin was sweeping up burnt seed scraps at a Queens, New York, bagel shop. He saved them in a bin, and voilà - another flukelike creation story.

Sprouted Whole Grains bread is usually a hit-or-miss choice to purchase. Thankfully, Dave's Killer Bread's version works! The loaf starts with whole wheat flour, then adds in sprouted wheat and sprouted rye. It also has some rolled oats on top for added texture.

The everything bagel is for those okay-it-I'm-going-for-it days. It's the perfect level of extra and over-the-top. The saltiness of the seasoning pairs very well with a generous spread of cream cheese or avocado, and in fact it gives eggs, veggies, and meats a boost as well.

Joe Bastianich: It's crunchy, salty, the burnt garlic bits and onion - and this combination, and the immense flavor that you get. And the fact that in an everything bagel, the toppings are a bit more burned. It's that medium.

Dahl was released from prison on December 27, 2004, after which he rejoined his brother Glenn at the family bakery for the third time. While working at the bakery, Dahl came up with a cornmeal-crusted loaf which he and his brother named "Dave's Killer Bread" and formed the basis of the new brand.

The standard combination of toppings on an everything bagel is as follows: sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried onion, garlic, and salt. Some may add in black sesame and cracked pepper, too. The result is a supremely flavorful bite, a complex nutty flavor, and an exquisite extra crunch (and usually a ton of crumbs.)

David Gussin claims he invented it sometime around 1980: while sweeping up leftover bagel toppings from the oven, Gussin saved them in a bin and convinced the store owner to make bagels with them. He concurs that others might have previously invented the concept but insists that he coined the name "everything bagel".

The concept of a "Bagel with Everything on it" raises the question of what would happen if all the matter in the universe was compacted into a single object - a theoretical concept known as singularity. Interestingly, a bagel compressed to its Schwarzschild radius could become a black hole.
