The Island of Sodor
The Island of Sodor is a fictional island that is the setting for The Railway Series books by the Rev. Wilbert Awdry (and his son Christopher). It is also the setting of the Thomas & Friends television series, though it is significantly different from the island in the books.
Percy is primarily based on an GWR Avonside Class SS 0-4-0ST with the body of a GWR 1340 Trojan, the bunker of a GWR 1361, Hunslet underframes and valve gear, a smokebox protruding from his saddletank, external cylinders and motion, and sandboxes underneath the tanks on the footplate.
Excluding the real-life engines, Harvey is the twenty-seventh standard gauge engine introduced in the television series, which corresponds with his number.
Nia
Nia has green stripes on her boiler and brake pump. Her footplate is painted red with black buffers. Her name (Nia) and her number (18) are painted on the sides of her tanks and cab respectively in yellow within black squares.
Even though Thomas the Tank Engine is aimed at children, adults can enjoy it just as much as kids.
Thomas and Friends is suitable for all ages but is, of course, more suited to younger children. This movie has some scary scenes, so we recommend parental guidance for children aged under six years.
Sodor is a fictional island located in the Irish Sea, just off the English mainland near Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria. It is the setting for The Railway Series books by the Rev. W. Awdry (and his son Christopher), and also for the popular television series Thomas & Friends.
Timothy was a grey engine that worked on Sir Topham Hatt's railway before Thomas arrived. He has the number 0 on his side, red striping and an elderly face.
Percy is the junior member of the principal team of engines. He is a happy little chap who is normally quite content puffing around the yard with no particular desire for adventure in the great world outside. He is always keen to oblige, a fact of which the other engines are apt to take advantage.
However, Thomas is longer and slightly taller. In the CGI series, Percy is depicted more clearly as shorter than Thomas in both length and height, but he ultimately remains wider. In All Engines Go, Thomas is depicted as definitively bigger than Percy.
Bruno is a firetruck red color with accents of black and yellow, and is emblazoned with the number 43.
Shane
Shane is based on the South Australian Railways 520 class. The real engine carrying his number, Sir Malcolm Barclay-Harvey, is currently preserved by the SteamRanger Preservation Society at their workshops in Mount Barker, South Australia.
Oliver (Number 11/1436)
Oliver (No. 11, but displays his ex-GWR number, 1436) is an 0-4-2 T ex-Great Western Railway 1400 Class locomotive, who 'escaped' from the Other Railway where he was due to be scrapped.
Thomas and Friends is suitable for all ages but is, of course, more suited to younger children. This movie has some scary scenes, so we recommend parental guidance for children aged under six years. These are the main messages from this movie: Friendship is important.
