The Scorch is a prominent location in the Maze Runner Trilogy, mentioned in the first and last books, and being the main setting of The Scorch Trials. The Scorch is a very dangerous place inhabited with Cranks, located between the two tropics, which is between the far north and the Aspen.

The Maze Runner is based on a book by James Dashner of the same title published in 2009, and it's your typical “young people trying to outwit an authoritarian regime” story.

The Maze Runner (2014) Development for the film began in January 2011 when Fox purchased the film rights to Dashner's novel The Maze Runner. Principal photography began in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in May 2013 and ended in July. It was released on September 19, 2014.

Ideas to discuss with your children The Maze Runner deserves its M rating. It is very suspenseful and includes some intensely violent and disturbing scenes, including the violent deaths of teenagers. Therefore we do not recommend it for children under 15 years.

Teens (ages 12 – 18) are the target audience, although many adults are reading these books right along with them. What's it about? It's one overarching story broken into three separate books, each with its own plot: The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, The Death Cure.

The ultimate goal of the Gladers is to find a way out of the Maze. To do so, certain Gladers called "Runners" venture into the Maze every day, to map it in an attempt to find a pattern in the Maze that would lead them to find an exit.

The Maze is a complex symbol representing both chaos and order. Every night the walls move and shift, making it harder for the Gladers to find an exit. These constant changes along with the apparent impossibility of actually solving the Maze make most of the Gladers see the Maze as a symbol of futility and chaos.

Although it is a tempting concept, refrain from using fire to combat the undead. Most zombies are oblivious to fire, much less afraid of it, and although fire does eventually kill zombies, it takes a long time to do so and since they are unfeeling, they will continue to come at you, now even more dangerous.

To put it simply, the Flare was a disease caused by a virus capable of transforming humans into violent and cannibalistic beings. This virus was created by the Post-Flares Coalition as a means of population control.
