An extensively modified Corellian light freighter, the Millennium Falcon is a legend in smuggler circles and is coveted by many for being the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.

If there was a flagship of the Kenner Star Wars fleet, the Millennium Falcon was unquestionably it. It was one of the first toys released in 1979 and it survived as part of the line through Return of the Jedi, released four years later.

The Millennium Falcon, originally known as YT-1300 492727ZED, was a modified YT-1300 light freighter with a storied history stretching back to the decades before the Clone Wars and the rise of the Galactic Empire.

Shortly thereafter, it was reunited with Solo and Chewbacca. Following Solo's death soon after, the Millennium Falcon became a Resistance vessel piloted by its new owner, Rey, throughout much of the First Order-Resistance War.

The original concept model of the Millennium Falcon was long and cylindrical - very unlike the flat design we know now.

It's fair to say that the Millennium Falcon's name is pretty great, and paints the picture of a ship that is fast, dangerous, and can last the ages. But where did the name come from, and was that all it was called? Simply put, the ship is named after a beautiful bird of prey – the Bat Falcon.

the Royal Pembroke Dockyard What is less well known about the Millennium Falcon is it truly was the last ship to be built at the Royal Pembroke Dockyard. Now an exhibition will tell the story of how Han Solo's beloved spaceship was built in an aircraft hangar in the Pembrokeshire town in spring 1979.

In canon, we don't know the inspiration behind the name of the Millennium Falcon. However, in Legends, we know that the ship went through many different names and owners, before being renamed the Millennium Falcon after the bat-falcon during the early days of the Rebel Alliance.

It would be hugely impractical. If not actually impossible for the cockpit to be located at the center as well instead you just slap the cockpit on the side. And you can carry a big shipment.

But where did the name come from, and was that all it was called? Simply put, the ship is named after a beautiful bird of prey – the Bat Falcon. Despite being the main pilots of the Millennium Falcon in Star Wars episodes IV through VI, neither Han Solo nor Lando Calrissian named her.
