The concepts of Brightburn was explored in a 2017 DC comic, a Halloween special that had many short horror stories in an "else world" style - one of these stories had Superman re-imagined as an evil invader (named "Bump in the Night") - the short story even ends with the young Superman destroying the Kent farm and ...
Basically Superman meets The Omen, Brightburn follows a couple who adopts an alien baby that crash lands near their farm in the titular town. On his 12th birthday, the child, now named Brandon, discovers he has many of Superman's signature powers, including super strength, the ability to fly, and laser heat vision.
The film was produced and financed by Screen Gems, Stage 6 Films, The H Collective and Troll Court Entertainment.
It's an original movie, there was no comic book version of Brightburn. But I think it was very heavily influenced by Mark Waid's comic book series Irredeemable, about a Superman-like hero who goes completely bad.
Half man, half sea creature.
The blue is representing Brandon being innocent and the red represents Brandon when he becomes Brightburn. Everytime that Brandon commits a murder or leaves destruction in his wake, he marks the area with this symbol.
But though Brightburn's haul wasn't big, it will still go down as a box office success. One only has to look at the film's budget in order to see it's already turned a profit. Brightburn cost a minuscule $6 million to make, and it's earned $17.3 million worldwide as of this writing.
BRIGHTBURN tells the story of a family that adopts a little boy who crash-lands on Earth from another planet, only to discover that he has superpowers. But there's a catch: He's not destined to become a superhero, but a super-villain. And there's a very fine line separating the two.
Brightburn posits that it's Brandon's exposure to his spaceship and its message to “take the world” that's responsible for his plummet into villainy.
Weaknesses. As powerful as Brandon is, it has been proven that he is not completely invincible. Brandon's Spaceship: The metal alloy that the ship is made of has been shown to be the only thing that can harm Brandon.

Superhuman Strength: Brandon possesses immense superhuman strength, being able to lift objects as heavy and large as a pick-up truck and crush stone and metal almost instantly with his hands. Combined with his immense speed, Brandon can move so quickly that impacting a human results in them being utterly obliterated.
Good performances, remarkable production design, and an adequate use of its R-rating. It may be a bit gory and filled with bad language for some, but if you are interested in a take on “evil teenage superman” I suggest giving Brightburn a try.
While its subversion of the Superman origin story through the prism of a horror film received praise, many critics felt that it didn't dive deep enough into the complexities of its premise.
The Observer's Oliver Jones criticized the film as squandering the potential of a superhero horror film in his review, while Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times stated, "The premise is intriguing, but this gruesome origin story plays like just another slasher film with idiots for victims" in his review.
