As you play you should try to give creative clues, listen for your opponents to say the taboo words, and pass sometimes when a card stumps you. Each card you get right is a point for your team, and all of the cards your skip, or cards on which you said words that were taboo are a point for the other team.

Players can also play using the Game-changer die to mix things up. If it lands on One Guesser, only one teammate can guess on their turn. With 4 other possibilities on the die, players better be shrewd, quick-thinking, and willing to take some risks - but don't get shut down by the squeaker!

The origin of the Taboo game is unknown, but it has been published in 1989 by a company called Parker Brothers. Hasbro has purchased it since then and it has become one of the most popular party games ever.

The English term taboo comes from tapu in Oceanic languages, particularly Polynesian languages, with such meanings as "prohibited" or "forbidden". That root tapu is reflected, among others, by Tongan or Māori tapu, and by Hawaiian kapu.

The Shape of Ancient Dice Suggests Shifting Beliefs in Fate and Chance. Roman dice were often visibly biased, but that might not have mattered to someone who believed in divine intervention. Dice, in their standard six-sided form, seem like the simplest kind of device - almost a classic embodiment of chance.
