Who is CBGB?

CBGB was a historic punk rock club located in the Bowery neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. It was opened in December 1973 by Hilly Kristal and quickly became a cultural hub for the local music scene. With its loud music, dimly lit interiors, and liberal atmosphere, it quickly became popular among young aspiring musicians who were looking for a platform to showcase their music.

In the early 2000s, CBGB faced financial difficulties, and a commercial actor by the name of Alan Rickman played Hilly Kristal in a biographical drama film titled 'CBGB'. The movie tells the story of Kristal, the club's owner, and the many ups and downs the club faced over its long history. In the film, Rickman portrayed Kristal as a devoted and passionate owner who went to great lengths to keep the club open despite the many challenges it faced.
