Who is Steve Martin?

Born in Waco, Texas in 1945, Martin started his career writing for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in the late 1960s before eventually transitioning to performing stand-up comedy.

In these ads, he often played the classic "wild and crazy guy" character that he had perfected during his stand-up comedy days. He would make absurd claims about the power of the American Express card, always ending with his famous catchphrase, "don't leave home without it."

Martin's acting prowess wasn't limited to commercials, however. He has appeared in a range of TV shows and movies over the years, including The Jerk, Three Amigos!, and Father of the Bride.
