The History of Woodbine. In the language of flowers, the word "Woodbine" means "honeysuckle," and implies a bond of love as is suggested by the plant's twining growth habit that embraces trees and other plants. The rich heritage of the Borough of Woodbine is truly unique.

Woodbine was founded in 1891 as a settlement for Eastern European Jews. The Baron DeHirsch Fund, organized by philanthropist Maurice de Hirsch, purchased 5,300 acres (21 km2) of land in Dennis Township in Cape May County to start a settlement. Immigrants from Poland and Russia were invited to settle the new community.

Woodbine owns and operates Woodbine and Mohawk Racetracks, showcasing the very best in live thoroughbred and standardbred racing, with nearly 3,000 slots machines at Woodbine, and over 1,000 at Mohawk (operated by Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation), and offering casual and formal dining.

Parthenocissus inserta, also known as Woodbine, Thicket Creeper, or False Virginia Creeper, is a perennial woody flowering vine native to Michigan and the UP. It is almost indistinguishable from its cousin, Parthenocissus quinquefolia, Virginia Creeper.

Virginia creeper or woodbine is a deciduous, woody vine Vitaceae (grape) family. It is native to eastern and central North America south to Mexico found growing in ravines, valleys, rich woods, thickets, rocky bluffs, hillsides, and fencerows.

The track was opened in 1956 with a one-mile oval dirt track, as well as a seven-eights turf course. It has been extensively remodeled since 1993, and since 1994 has had three racecourses.
