Scan & Detect Unwanted Tile Trackers Once activated, a scan needs to run for up to ten minutes for the most accurate results. After the scan is complete, the app will display the results and notify the user if it finds any unknown Tile trackers traveling with them, indicating a potential stalking situation.

Unlike other Bluetooth trackers on the market, namely AirTags, Tile does not notify nearby smartphone users when an unknown Bluetooth tracker is traveling with them.

Asked for comment about my experiment, a Tile spokesman, Scott Coriell said, “Tile is designed to help people find their things, not for tracking people.” He said using a Tile like this violates the terms of use and “can result in a permanent ban from Tile.”

How Far Can You Track the Tile? Since Tile uses Bluetooth, it's limited by the range of Bluetooth. Tile states their tracking devices work at distances of up to 150 feet for the Tile Sticker, 200 feet for the Tile Slim and Tile Mate, and 400 feet for the Tile Pro.
