The two are separate services, both involved in money transfers but in quite different ways.

When you send a transfer using cash pickup as a delivery method, your recipient can collect cash from a nearby physical location that's convenient for them. This option is great if your recipient doesn't have a bank account or prefers to have cash on hand.

Cash pickups work as a receiving method (also called a pay-out method) in a money transfer. This means that it's always the recipient of the money that handles the cash, with the sender of the money typically choosing how to fund the transfer.

Click on Cash In or Receive. Enter the MTCN shared by your sender, and the estimated amount sent to you, then click Next. Check that the information you have provided is correct. Read and agree to Western Union's Terms and conditions, Fraud Warning, and Privacy Statement, then tap on Receive Funds.

Is Western Union Secure? As one of the oldest money transfer companies in the business, Western Union is seen as a very secure, safe way to send money overseas. The company is fully licensed and insured in multiple countries. It's long history of offering money transfers means it is well-trusted by the public.

We need your recipient's city. Mobile number. We use this to send an SMS notification to your recipient with the transfer reference number which they will need in order to collect the funds. We will also inform them when their funds are ready to be collected.

What do I need to pick up money at an agent location? Bring a valid government-issued ID (such as a US driver's license or passport) and the tracking number (MTCN) for the money transfer. You also need to provide the sender's complete name and state the expected amount.

Money transfers are available for 90 days. If the receiver is unable to pick up the money transfer and it has been 90 days, contact Customer Care for the money transfer to be renewed and made available for payout.

At Branch:

• The Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN)
• Acceptable means of identification (International Passport or Driver's License)
• Expected Amount.
• The receiver's name, address and phone number.
• Sender's name and country.
• Test Question and Answer where applicable.

$1,000 Sending and receiving limits Before you verify your identity, you can send and receive up to $1,000 on a rolling 30-day period. There's also a total account limit of $1,500. If you don't think you've reached that limit with your account, you may need to consolidate the numbers of accounts you've created.
