8% At 8% alcohol, White Claw ® Hard Seltzer Surge is a stronger wave of refreshment. Available now in a variety pack with Blackberry, Lime, Blood Orange and Cranberry.

“The alcohol in White Claw Hard Seltzer comes from fermented sugars derived from malted gluten-free grains.” Further confusing matters over whether there is vodka in White Claw is the fact the brand now produces a line of distilled spirits, including a handful of flavored expressions.

The biggest difference between the original White Claw Hard Seltzer (or any of their other products) and the new White Claw Surge is the alcohol content. Like the rest of the portfolio, Surge comes in 355-millilitre cans, but it contains 7% alcohol rather than 5%.

In the US the alcohol is usually made by fermenting cane sugar or malted barley. Hard seltzer products outside of the US have been found to use either neutral spirit, or fermentation of fruit. The alcohol by volume is around 5% and the calorie-content is relatively low.

But there is a caveat: more alcohol equals more calories – Surge contains 220 calories per 330ml can, compared to 95 for the standard White Claw seltzers. However, the carb-phobic among you can take heart – Surge is still low carb, containing only 2g carbs per can, so you can indulge with relative impunity.
