What is it? The Elf on the Shelf® is a Christmas tradition centered around Scout Elves who fly to the North Pole each night. Scout Elves arrive at homes in a keepsake box set that features a storybook. The book explains that elves love to report to Santa to tell him about each day's activities!

The story instructs the child to send an invitation to their elf so that he can get permission from Santa to spend the child's birthday with them. On the night before the birthday the child sets out the elf's special birthday outfit.

Fill out the invitation below with your name, your elf's name, and information about your birthday. Add color and decoration to your invitation to make it extra special! When you are finished, mail your invitation to your elf at the North Pole! They will be SO excited to come and see you on your special day!

What is the Elf on the Shelf tradition today? Much like the creators' household, families around the world participate in this holiday tradition. Once the elf is “sent to your home from the North Pole” (as in, after you buy it), it's up to parents to facilitate the holiday magic.

The Elf on the Shelf tradition started back in 2005 when Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Bell, self-published the book “The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition” along with a special box with a small Scout Elf inside.
