Levemir FlexPen 100 units/ml solution for injection in pre-filled pen. 1 ml of the solution contains 100 units insulin detemir* (equivalent to 14.2 mg). 1 pre-filled pen contains 3 ml equivalent to 300 units. *Insulin detemir is produced in Saccharomyces cerevisiae by recombinant DNA technology.

Insert the needle into your skin. Inject the dose by pressing the green push-button all the way in until the 0 lines up with the pointer. Keep the needle in the skin for at least 6 seconds, and keep the green push-button pressed all the way in until the needle has been pulled out.

What is Levemir® (insulin detemir) injection 100 U/mL? Levemir® is a man-made insulin used to control high blood sugar in adults and children with diabetes mellitus. Levemir® is not for people with diabetic ketoacidosis (increased ketones in the blood or urine).

Same Insulin, Different Pen. Starting early February, Levemir® FlexTouch® (NDC: 0169-6438-10) is being phased out and replaced with Levemir® FlexPen® (NDC: 0169-6432-10). In order to minimize disruption, please make sure your patients have an updated prescription for Levemir® FlexPen® (NDC: 0169-6432-10).

The usual dosage range is 0.1 units/kg to 0.2 units/kg once per day in the evening. Another Levemir dosage option for type 2 diabetes is twice-daily dosing. If your doctor recommends Levemir dosing twice daily, you'll inject your first dose in the morning and your second dose in the evening.

That means there are 100 units of insulin in each milliliter (mL) of insulin.

If you're just starting to use insulin, the recommended starting dose for Levemir is 10 units, or 0.1 to 0.2 units per kilogram (kg)* of body weight. You'll take Levemir once a day in the evening or divide it into two doses a day.

Insulin vials have U-100 insulin. That means there are 100 units of insulin in each milliliter (mL) of insulin. Humalog® insulin comes in 3 mL (300 units) vials or 10 mL (1000 units) vials. All other types of insulin come in 10 mL (1000 units) vials.

Units = 24. Strength = 40/ml. The dose of insulin in ml = 24/40 = 0.6 ml.

Levemir® FlexTouch® is designed to be used with NovoFine®, NovoFine® Plus or NovoTwist® needles as part of The All In-One System®. Levemir® Penfill® is designed to be used with Novo Nordisk Insulin Delivery Devices, NovoFine®, NovoFine® Plus or NovoTwist® needles as part of The All In-One System®.

Levemir can be taken either once or twice daily. If you have type 1 diabetes, you'll take it along with a mealtime insulin. If you have type 2 diabetes, you may or may not take Levemir along with a mealtime insulin. If your doctor prescribes Levemir to be taken once a day, take it with dinner or at bedtime.
