GEICO TV commercial - Behind the Scenes

The GEICO TV Spot, 'Behind the Scenes' offers a cheeky and amusing take on the usual making-of featurette. This commercial offers viewers the rare chance to see what really goes on behind the scenes of a GEICO ad. The 30-second TV spot opens with a typical scene of a GEICO ad, with a group of people standing in front of a green screen, and a director barking orders through a megaphone. Suddenly, the action cuts away, and we're transported to the "real" behind-the-scenes world of the GEICO ad.

What we find is a hilarious contrast to the typically sleek and professional-looking final product that we see on our screens. Instead, we observe a chaotic, disorganized, and outright zany crew of misfits, who seem to be filming the GEICO ad with all sorts of unorthodox techniques and props. For instance, one shot shows a group of clowns being hoisted up on ropes in front of a green screen, while another shot features a man in a giant mouse costume bouncing around on a pogo stick.

As the voiceover tells us about some of the benefits of GEICO's insurance offerings, we see a variety of oddball antics, from a scuba diver flapping around on the studio floor to a cowboy riding a stationary elephant. Eventually, we cut back to the "real" world of the GEICO ad, where our hapless actors look goggle-eyed at the absurd mock-ups of the commercial they're filming. The final message of the GEICO TV Spot, 'Behind the Scenes' is that even if things don't always go according to plan behind the scenes, you can trust GEICO to carry you through.

GEICO TV commercial - Behind the Scenes produced for GEICO was first shown on television on December 4, 2012.
