Justin Thomas won the 2022 PGA Championship on Sunday, the second major of his career, after a dramatic playoff. Thomas won with a score of two-under after the three playoff holes with fellow American Will Zalatoris at Southern Hills Country Club at Tulsa, Oklahoma.

It was the 104th PGA Championship. This was the fifth PGA Championship at Southern Hills and its eighth major championship. The event was originally scheduled to be played at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey, but was moved to Southern Hills following the January 6 United States Capitol attack.

The PGA Championship is televised in the United States by CBS and ESPN.

The PGA Championship was originally a match play event; however, in 1958 it was changed to a stroke play event. Walter Hagen (match play) and Jack Nicklaus (stroke play) hold the record for the most victories; both men have won the competition five times.

The PGA Championship is the only major whose field is made up exclusively of professionals. Each year 156 players earn a spot in the event through one or several criteria. The event is the only major that does not guarantee entry to the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking.

The events of Wednesday, during which pro-Trump protesters stormed the U.S. Capitol, pushed the organization to move to another venue with just more than 16 months until that championship is scheduled to be played May 19-22, 2022.

One of the reasons for moving the PGA Championship to May was to avoid the high heat that had previously plagued some golf courses in August. Justin Thomas made an incredible comeback at last year's event at Southern Hills.
