Frequently Asked Questions about preservision areds 2 tv spot, 'vision loss'

PreserVision AREDS 2 contains high levels of a specific combination of vitamins and minerals recommended by the NEI to help reduce the risk of progression of moderate-to-advanced AMD.

After these manipulations, the data seemed to show that the drug prevented what they called “AMD events”, but it did so for only in one group of patients, the one who had intermediate AMD in one eye, and advanced AMD in the other. The study did NOT show that these patients had any vision benefit from taking this drug.

The color of the box and the label on the bottle remain the same. The difference between the old and new vitamins is the “new” formulation lacks omega-3 fatty acids. They were removed because the AREDS study group was unable to demonstrate a benefit in patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

If you smoke and your AREDS supplement contains beta-carotene, that could be a health hazard. AREDS2 recommendations removed beta-carotene and replaced it with lutein and zeaxanthin, which provide the same level of benefit without risk to smokers.

Serious side effects Very upset stomach or throwing up. Severe diarrhea. Very bad constipation. Muscle weakness.

There's no cure (yet!) for age-related macular degeneration, but if you have intermediate or advanced AMD, your doctor will very likely recommend the AREDS 2 dietary supplement.

Vitamin A Vitamin A is essential for good vision. It is a component of the protein rhodopsin, which allows the eye to see in low-light conditions.

The results showed that high doses of antioxidants vitamin C (500 mg), vitamin E (400 IU), and beta-carotene (15 mg/25,000 IU), along with zinc (8 mg), reduced the risk of vision loss from advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in some, but not all, people with this disease.

Because PreserVision is being sold as a dietary supplement rather than a drug -- and therefore did not need or receive FDA approval -- Bausch & Lomb cannot make any claims that PreserVision treats, cures or prevents any specific disease.

Even though Ocuvite PreserVision® has been shown to reduce the risk of vision loss from AMD in the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) conducted by the National Eye Institute, this product is a nutritional supplement and has not been evaluated by the FDA.

There's no cure (yet!) for age-related macular degeneration, but if you have intermediate or advanced AMD, your doctor will very likely recommend the AREDS 2 dietary supplement.

Basically, the preservision Areds 2 can be taken twice a day in the morning and in the evening. Taking with food is advised as the absorption of vitamin E, lutein to the body will be more effective.
