Does the guy in the new Diet Dr Pepper commercial look familiar to you? Early American Idol fans, rejoice – it's none other than Justin Guarini. The 36-year-old singer and Broadway actor stars in the soda ad as "Lil' Sweet."

Since 2015, Guarini has been starring as Lil' Sweet in Diet Dr Pepper television commercials, and web marketing.

David Naughton Because of the visibility he achieved through the “Be a Pepper” commercials, David Naughton became America's heartthrob. Peppers everywhere were eager to see more of him and their wish was granted when the horror film An American Werewolf in London was released in August of 1981.

Once standing, it turns out that the soda guru (who in real life stands at 6ft) is a lot smaller than he first appeared, only about 4ft tall. His ensemble included a thick forest green head band to hold back his long red locks, which matched his leather trousers and sparkly scarf.

The next company to market diet soda was Royal Crown Cola, who created Diet Rite in 1958. Next Dr. Pepper released a diet version of their beverage in 1962, and then the Coca-Cola joined the market in 1963 with Tab.
