Winston-Salem, North Carolina Texas Pete is a brand of hot sauce in the United States developed and manufactured by the TW Garner Food Company in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. TW Garner was founded by Thad W. Garner in 1929.

“The Texas Pete name was chosen to evoke the spicy Mexican inspired foods of Texas,” experts said. “'Pete' comes from Harold's nickname.” In the 1930s, cowboys were popular on-screen characters, and the brand became a symbol of “self-reliance,” historians said.

In 1946, the three brothers formed T.W. Garner Food Company and used the Texas Pete name to produce various sauces, including Worcestershire, wing, and cocktail sauces. The company made such sauces because the sale of Texas Pete was not enough for financial sustainability.

The roots of this go back to Texas' beginnings. The story goes that the word “Texas” itself comes from the Caddo word for “friends”. The Caddo were a confederacy of Native American tribes that dominated East Texas.
